On Saturday, March 11th at 7 pm in Esseker center, Robert Fišer’s exhibition Binary Spaces will be presented as a part of POPUP31. This exhibition is the result of Fišer’s artistic endeavors that began in the earlier series Monochrome/Untitled Surface and Soft Destructions. Even during studying, Fišer’s artistic thought was subjected to questioning and desire to overcome the fact that maybe everything has already been painted and nothing ‘new and original’ can be visualized. The end result of his artistic endeavors is always uncertain – it is always a journey that (pre)determines the default destination just so it can be (pre)determined once again.

He says the following, “In the Monochrome series, I’ve arrived at the end in terms of deduction and reduction, finding myself at a crossroads where the only logical step was taking that ‘simplified’ painting off the canvas that was its conventional and natural surface. From that idea, I’ve started the destruction of the monochrome and reduced paintings. I was searching for new possibilities of painting, placing it in an interrelationship with the canvas, space, and audience. We could say that the works in this exhibition are an extension of those series and thinking about the medium – but not only about painting, but also about sculpture, drawing, and photography.” The extensiveness of these works is probably just a foundation of Fišer’s future work, a quest where the goal is set in and of itself, without previously set boundaries.
